Day 3 recap of the 2018 CCAA Nationals

November 9, 2018

Friday was a quieter day at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in terms of the amount of games on the field at the 2018 CCAA National Men’s Soccer Championship, but the two games played were important ones.

Four teams were left vying for two spots in Saturday’s Bronze Medal Game with the Sheridan Bruins taking on the Langara Falcons, and the NAIT Ooks challenging the Capilano Blues.

Game 9: Sheridan Bruins 2, Langara Falcons 1 | Bronze Medal Semi-Final

In a spirited match to begin the day, the Sheridan Bruins and Langara Falcons battled for a spot in Saturday’s Bronze Medal Game.

After a scoreless opening half, the Bruins struck first, in the 47’, to take the 1-0 lead.

With time ticking away on the clock, the Falcons tied the match in the 77’ to knot the game at 1-1.

After getting into penalty trouble, the Bruins played with desperation in the final minutes of the game.  Ultimately they took the lead in the 90’ with only seven players left remaining on the field and held on for the victory.

With the win, the Bruins advance to the Bronze Medal Game on Saturday where they will take on the Capilano Blues.

The Player of the Game for the Bruins was Anthony Wright, while James Miller was recognized for the Falcons.

Game 10: Capilano Blues 4, NAIT Ooks 0 | Bronze Medal Semi-Final

It was a strong 90-minute effort by the Capilano Blues as they took down the NAIT Ooks by a score of 4-0 to advance to the Bronze Medal Game.

A goal in the 43’ gave the Blues the lead entering the half.  After the break they were quick to tack on another, scoring in the 58’ to double their lead.  Insurance goals in the 81’ and 89’ helped push the Blues to victory.

With the win, the Capilano Blues will meet the Sheridan Bruins in Saturday’s Bronze Medal Game at 2pm at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall, PEI.  This is a rematch of the first round game where the Bruins won 2-0.

The Player of the Game for the Blues in their victory over the Ooks was Zach Kaiser, while Jeremy Monn-Djasngar was chosen for NAIT for his strong performance in the game.
